Onion Adai a delicious and luscious south Indian dish

Onion Adai is the world famous south Indian food recipes which are great admired by south Indian especially in the state of Hyderabad, Kerala and many more. Now let us know about its ingredients and method to cook this low fat recipe at home.

  • Parboiled Rice (ukda Rice) : 2 cups
  • Red Gram Split (masoor Dal) : 1/4 cup
  • Bengal Gram Split (chana Dal) : 1/4 cup
  • Pigeon Pea Split (arhar Dal) : 1/4 cup
  • Black Gram Split (urad Dal) : 1/2 cup
  • Green Chilies : 4
  • Ginger : 1 inch
  • Coriander Leaves (chopped) : 1/4 cup
  • Curry Leaves : 10-12
  • Red Chilies Whole : 8
  • Asafoetida : 1/4 tsp
  • Onion : 1
  • Coconut (scraped) : 1/4 cup
  • Refined Oil to fry

Method :

  • First, wash and soaked all the dals and rice for about 5 hours.
  • After that, grind the green chilies, coriander leaves, and ginger curry leaves with red chilies and salt to a coarse paste.
  • Peel and chop the onion finely and keep aside.
  • Drain and grind the dals and rice to a coarse batter and rest the batter for about an hour.
  • Mix the paste, onion, coconut and asafoetida to this batter and mix well. Remember to check the taste for salt and keep aside
  • Heat a heavy dosa griddle, smear oil and spread one ladle full of this batter to a thick circular shape.
  • Make a few holes in the center. Pour oil on the sides and in the center, cover and cook over a low heat temperature.
  • Turn over and pour the oil and let it cook till it is crisp all around and golden brown in color.
  • You can make about 8-10 adais and serve hot with the chutney of your choice.
